Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. (I Peter 5:7)

American businessman James Cash (J. C.) Penney found this verse to be true. Through hard work and a thrift lifestyle, J. C. Penney succeeded in building one of America’s most prosperous retail franchises. But during the Great Depression, heavy financial losses caused him enormous stress, which led to a life-threatening illness. While in the hospital, believing he was going to die, Penney wrote farewell letters to his wife and son. When he awoke the next morning, he went for a walk down the hallway of the hospital and heard singing coming from the chapel. He went in and listened with a heavy heart. The song “God Will Take Care of You” spoke to him deeply.

In a life-transforming instant, Penney discovered that God was there to help. “From that day to this, my life has been free from worry,” he later declared. Even in the midst of potentially life-altering circumstances J. C. Penny learned to cast all of his cares upon the Lord. God will take care of you!
